Wailing

Can you believe this sweet sleeping baby can wail from 11 pm to 3 am nonstop? Wes and I are really getting cracked up at Ashton's adorable hand positions. We try to catch them when we can...

Thoughts from our first Days of being home with Ashton...

So Ashton Thomas York is here and we are praising God for the greatest miracle of new life! I went into labor last Friday and labored for several hours at home before we headed to the hospital about 4 am. The nurses were impressed with how far along I was and said he'd probably be there by lunch! I decided to hold out to see how long I could last before the epidural and before 8 am, the midwife broke my water and said that Ashton was breech! Within an hour, we were in the OR which was not at all what we had expected!I was disappointed at first that for a month my OB visits all said he was head down but then realized I was thankful the Lord allowed me to see what labor was like instead of scheduling a c-section. A lot of women don't get to experience that. So Ashton was born at 9:41 am and is perfect in every way!!! He was 7 lb 1 oz and a whopping 22 inches long just like his daddy was when he was born. We got home on Tuesday and life has been crazy to say the least ever since! For instance, it is 4 am and I cannot sleep since his last feeding. My clock is so messed up. A few things from yesterday... Wes who does most of the changing changed about 20 diapers and before noon we had changed his sheets three times and clothes about 5. The poor baby leaks through every diaper brand there is and as soon as we change him, he goes again- never fails. I am a human cow and all I do is feed him which I know most moms feel like-it is so NOT easy! Poor Haley slept with us the first night and after an hour of wailing dug her head under the covers which she never does. Yesterday she also threw up four times-maybe due to stress? My grandmother brought her over a scrambled egg and she seems ok now. At one point I noticed her water bowl was dry and asked wes where she was. He said she was probably out looking for water. It was 6 pm I think before we were out of our pajamas and Wes asked if I had seen his toothbrush and by 12 am we had finally both showered and I looked down and realized I have a belly button again! All in all we are completely handling parenthood I would say and I am not sure if I have dried urine, breastmilk, or spit up on my arm. I am sorry for not returning all of your phone calls and emails-we are so thankful for our sweet friends and family!

So Sweet

Haley just loves sitting beside the crib on a rug in the baby's room. I wonder how much she'll love it when he's actually here? I will spare the details of how many cm dilated for my friend Chris who hates that I know, but Ashton may come any time now!! I had the option of being induced tomorrow but chose to wait it out...

Last Day

Today was my last day actually going to work which is crazy. Next week I will be working from home refilling medicines and doing labwork. It is so strange to leave your job for a few months. I made sure I grabbed all of my pediatric books so I can practice all of the cool newborn exam tricks and annoy my son from day one. I'm sure my PA friends Bijal and Ewa will appreciate that if they read this!
My brother failed his phone call test today. I called him early this morning and he failed to answer even though he knows he needs to be on the ready since he has a four hour drive to get here! He said he knew if I called back, it might mean labor and he would definitely answer the second time.

Tired

39 weeks and tired after work today. I think I have done most of the physicals for the county's bus drivers since they all come to our office so that is what my days have consisted of lately. Last week I removed a big splinter from someone's foot and had to numb it up and cut it out which was exciting. My days off have consisted of washing all of Ashton's clothes in Dreft and trying to stay cool. I have come to really enjoy sticking my head in the freezer...so much that after walking Haley last night Wes said, "headed for the freezer?"

Note to Self...

Do not go to the vet 2 weeks before the next baby is due because today while I was there, they brought in an emergency. A dog had stopped breathing and I heard the family wailing when they couldn't save him. It was horrible... but would have been horrible even if I wasn't so pregnant and emotional. On a "happier?" note...Haley is $200 healthier now that I took her for her annual physical and she got all her shots updated. I found out she needs to lose about 5 pounds...not a shocker and she needs her teeth cleaned badly and may need to have one extracted for an additional total of 300-400 dollars. I really shouldn't complain because I hear way too much of that in my own job and know how little money the doctor actually sees of what you pay. Anyway, the vet did give me several articles titled, "And Baby Makes Four" and "Procedures for Introducing a Baby to a Dog; some dogs can perceive an infant as a strange mammal..." haha
In other news, Wes has had a pretty successful 2 wks of bandcamp and we have our band family cookout tonight. Things are moving along with Ashton. He's definitely head down which is great news and now we wait. He's officially full term tomorrow!
